I’ve lived in southwest Michigan all of my life. As long as I can remember, drawing and painting pictures was always a fascination and preoccupation. As an outdoor enthusiast, I have always loved landscapes and the quiet places that lie outside of the city limits. They remain continuing themes for me.

For 33 years I enjoyed a successful career as a commercial artist. In 2011 I retired to devote myself more fully towards my own artistic interests. Currently I paint mainly with watercolor, sometimes oil or acrylic, but my primary aim is to produce work that captures a sense of time and place, the weather and the season.

I try to paint outside as much as I can but the realities of time, light and weather sometimes mean that working en plein air isn’t practical. Works done in the studio are most often developed directly from the sketches, memory and subsequent paintings that were painted on location.
